NAME: Colee
PERSONAL JOURNAL:[personal profile] humancentiqueef
AIM: soweneverfindyou

SERIES: Heroes
CANON POINT: Post-season 3 but pre-season 4. She's accepted into college, but she hasn't gone there yet.
LOSS: Rapid cellular regeneration. She can no longer regenerate, she can feel pain now, and her immune system is crap, which means she'll be getting sick now after a whole lifetime of it not happening ever. It'll shock her for a few weeks, and then she'll try to get over it and figure out that being normal actually kind of sucks.

ABOUT THE CHARACTER: Claire used to just be your average Texan high school cheerleader. Nothing too extraordinary about her, her grades average, and the 'normal' amount of friendships in high school. That all changed the day she realized she could regenerate from any wound. She was disgusted that she was a freak, but over time she realized that it wasn't the curse she thought it was when she was younger.

She is more or less a wannabe hero, the kind of person to jump at the opportunity to help somebody even if it means she'd get hurt. She is a bit reckless, to be honest, due to the fact that she knows no wounds will last forever with her ability. Well, physical wounds, that is. There's no way to deny that she's stubborn- she'll stand by her opinions, actions, and views. She has a blurred moral compass, like her father, but she will do anything to help another person as long as they deserve it. She can be insensitive at times, especially when it comes to her ability or her own mortality.

Nothing is really half-assed with Claire. When she sets her mind to something, she gets it done (that's not to say she won't drag her feet on some things). She likes to think that she's right all the time (but will admit when she isn't sure about something), and will do things her way unless she's been proven wrong by something or somebody. Like any teenage girl, she can be flirty, sarcastic, and bitchy. Sometimes overly so. When she gets really into the moment, it's hard for her to not get carried away. All of her emotions are strong- they have to be, to make up for her lack of physical feeling.

Claire isn't the scared little girl she used to be. She's gained a little fearlessness, able to do almost anything without a second thought, though she is still a little socially challenged. It comes with all the experiences that have happened to her. She closes herself off from people to keep from getting hurt, either from them dying, leaving her after finding out about her ability, or from just simply leaving. Getting close enough to love is a challenge with Claire, though it is not impossible. She keeps herself at a distance, though when things come together, it's strong and intense. Claire is a happy medium between extroverted and introverted. While it isn't easy for her to develop close friendships, talking to people isn't a problem; she can talk to almost anyone without there being a problem.

Despite popular belief, not all blonde cheerleaders are airheads. Granted, she was a C average student in high school with the occasional B or A, but she's pretty smart. She enjoys classic literature and learning the details of her ability (she read a textbook about it, after all). Math, however, is a different story. She was good at it until there were suddenly negative numbers and then everything went downhill from there. Thankfully, she hasn't had to do much math lately, and she still managed to get her GED without an extensive knowledge on it, so as far as she is concerned, she doesn't need to bother herself with learning more math. Until college, that is.

Claire has a healthy self-esteem. Of course, there are some things about her body she doesn't like – she could never have the 'perfect' body, she was short enough to still be taken as a sophomore in high school sometimes – but she isn't up all night worrying about it. She's come to terms with her body (as well as her ability), and is okay with who she is. It's not like she can change it, anyway. Talking about her body, though, is not something she likes to do; it's too easy for her ability to be brought up, either by accident or somebody figures out something they shouldn't.

Claire does not usually forgive or forget. If somebody has wronged her, she will retaliate and make sure they are more than even. After Brody attempted to rape her (which ended up killing her for the first time) and she learned that she wasn't the first person for it to happen to, she decided to do something about it. That something was to crash his car into a wall and send them both to the hospital. She made a miraculous recovery while he lost his memory (from the Haitian, not the crash). West talked her into getting revenge on Debbie, too, which resulted in her falling to her 'death' and Debbie getting caught with alcohol (she was kicked off the squad for that), meaning Claire could get on the squad now that there was a free spot. It was mean-spirited, but she believed that Debbie deserved it. She hasn't completely forgiven her adoptive father for his actions with the Company, either, and still has some serious anger towards him for his being gone while she was growing up. Sylar, of course, will never get her forgiveness after what he did to her.

Claire is torn between embracing her inner freak and trying to settle into a normal life. Every time she tries to be 'normal', she gets restless and starts getting careless. She feels more like herself when she's not pretending to be something she's not, but she doesn't want to turn her back on being normal forever. She can pull off being normal for a short time, but after a while it's obvious that she isn't a normal teenage girl. She can fake it, but that can become exhausting for her after a while. She is sick of pretending and just wants to be Claire Bennet again, not Little Miss Miracle Grow or Claire Butler. She isn't sure what she wants to do with her life yet, only that she wants to help people and make sure that she can protect the people she loves. In addition to that, it's easy for Claire to grow restless with one thing. She gets bored easily (she honestly has no hobbies, and a serious lack of friends), which reflects in her changing of her outward appearance- she changes her hairstyle every few months and tries out new hair fads when she can to keep herself entertained. It's one of the only things that keeps her feeling like a normal teenage girl.

Religion doesn't play an active part in Claire's life, but she doesn't care enough to label herself as an atheist. She simply isn't sure what to believe. She was raised to be respectful and polite to strangers and her elders, which, for the most part, she is- until they do something that makes her blood boil. She isn't afraid to call anybody out, even her own grandmother or father. Her mother was a bit of a housewife, so Claire never really had to do her own laundry or cook her own meals, though she definitely helped her mother with cooking and baking.

ABILITIES: Rapid cellular regeneration, which ... has been taken from her. Basically, all of her wounds healed instantly

THIRD-PERSON WRITING SAMPLE: [ 250 WORDS MINIMUM. In a third-person perspective, write a couple of paragraphs featuring your character. It will used as a measure of your characterization and writing ability, so we advise to choose a premise that will best demonstrate those things. ]

FIRST-PERSON JOURNAL SAMPLE: This is a little weird, I know, but I have somebody's soggy cake in my room right now. It looks like a birthday cake, but the frosting is all messed up now. I can kind of make out something that looks like ... "Happy 265th", but I don't know if that's a typo. If it isn't, then happy 265th birthday to whoever has had a birthday recently that is that old? If you want your cake, let me know.

(The frosting is still pretty good. Probably wasn't the best idea to try it, but it feels wrong to just let a huge cake like this go to waste.)

Anyway, if anybody has lost a cake or misplaced it or whatever, I have it in my room. I don't want it, so please take it back.

This is my one good deed of the year, take advantage of it. Next time I find a cake out in the rain I won't be as willing to let it go.

INTENT: I think it would be interesting for Claire (who has been very wishy-washy on how she feels about her ability) to suddenly be without it. Her personality won't let her be a victim, though, so of course she will try and find a way to still be a hero even if she doesn't have the one thing that made her feel like she could be a hero.

First and foremost, make it through the year without trying to kill myself again. And to stop blaming myself for Aaron's death.

Keep my intake under 1000 calories. The less I eat, the more tired I am, which slows my thoughts along with my Prozac. I like it. My family doesn't, but I do. I can't keep pretending to be all happy and shit anymore. I don't need to. They know about my dark secrets.

Make some new friends and be able to keep them. I have a habit of getting attached to people and then getting scared that they'll be terrified of how fucked up mentally I am. I'm trying to work on my own with that.
